In the Throne Eoom the Emperorlaid aside for the last time on his coronation day thecrown of Peter I and the emblems of his kingship, and,slipping back almost into private life, he, his mother, andhis wife made their way to their apartments. I should like to know what the Tsar himself thoughtof it all, what were his true feelings, and whether he wasthoroughly satisfied with the exalted position which hehad just occupied in all its completeness. Certainly, everyone else was loud in praise of the dignity, gentleness, andmodesty with which he carried himself during one of themost trying days that mortal could be called upon to passthrough.
