Description

Day 1:

Our beautiful campsite on day 1 of our trek from Tso Kar to Tso Moriri at Pongungu a few km above Tso Kar

Elevation approx 4575m

Day 1 is driving from Leh, over TaglangLa (at 5328m, listed as the 2nd highest motorable pass in the world) to Pongungu. You arrive in late afternoon, in time for a wander around the plains or down to brilliant blue and salt-crusted Tso Kar, a few km away down the valley.

Now above 4500m, it is a full 1000m altitude gain from Leh (3500m) so unless you've acclimatized trekking earlier, you will certainly feel it.
