English: India House - a modern impression This picture of the River Medlock is taken from Oxford Road under the railway bridge and shows the Refuge Insurance Building (now the Palace Hotel) on the left, and in the background India House, newly built when French impressionist artist Adolphe Vallette (who taught L S Lowry at Manchester School of Art) painted this scene in 1905.
