From Philadelphia, see route thenceto Cincinnati as far as Columbus, Ohio—from Columbus, proceed by the Colum-bus and Xenia, the Dayton and West-ern and the Central Indiana roads. From Baltimore, by the Baltimoreand Ohio Railway to Wheeling, theOhio Central to Columbus, and thenceas in preceding route from Philadelphia. From Cincinnati, by the Cincinnatiand Indianapolis Railway, direct. From Louisville, Ky., by the Jeffer-sonville road, 108 miles. From St. Louis, by the Ohio and Mis-sissippi and the Jeffersonville roads. Indianapolis may be readily reached,also, by railway from Chicago, andnearly every other city of the West. Text Appearing After Image: The State House, Indianapolis. Hotels in Indianapolis.—The BatesHouse, $2.00 per day; the American,(opposite the Depot,) $1.50 per day. The locale of Indianapolis was se-lected for the State Capital in 1820, atwhich time the whole region was adense forest. Five years later, thepublic offices were removed hither fromCorydou, and now, broad and beautifuland populous streets, lined with costlyand elegant edifices and dwellings, areevery year spreading farther and fartherover the great plain. The Railway Station here is an edi-fice of magnificent proportions, with afrontage of 350 feet, and trains are mo-mently leaving it for every point of thecompass. Some of the very manyChurches are imposing structures. TheState House is a fine building, 180 feetin length, ornamented on each sidewith a grand Doric portico, and sur-rounded by a noble dome. The CourtHouse, the Masonic Hall and the BatesHotel will attract the particular notice ofthe visitor here. Indianapolis is the seat of the Indi-ana
