Description
English: The Industries of Holyoke, a mural study commissioned by the Section of Painting and Sculpture for the Post Office being erected in Holyoke at that time. In the image from left to right (by figure) can be seen the industries of water heaters [Holyoke Heater Company], paper, a basket of rags used for cotton paper, tapestries and silk, thread [Merrick/American Thread Co], and machinery [Holyoke Machine Co.].

The clock tower in the center-top of the portrait is that of Holyoke City Hall, with the Mount Tom summit house clearly visible in the background. In the foreground are several buildings not necessarily next to one another in the way portrayed, these include the Prew Building to the immediately lower left of City Hall, the Holyoke Opera House at the center immediate-right, and the two towers of the Holy Trinity Greek Church. To the far right of the painting behind the factory buildings can be seen South Hadley Falls and Mount Holyoke.

Bequeathed to the collection of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in 2015.
