English: This brief film gives us a glimpse of the future possibilities arising on the landscape of mathematics education in India. All over the country, we see ongoing initiatives to make maths relevant to children. The new curricula try to relate maths to their lives and move away from age-old conventions of rote learning through algorithms. Such developments have led to a new surge of interest among school students and teachers.
This film came out of a video documentation project on maths in India done by Chandita Mukherjee. It was initiated by the National Initiative on Mathematical Education (http://nime.hbcse.tifr.res.in), with the support of the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Government of India and produced by Comet Media Foundation (www.cometmedia.org). If the picture quality of this downloadable copy is not good enough for your purposes, you could write to us at (cometmediafdn at gmail.com) for a DVD copy, but would have to be prepared to bear the costs of copying and postage. |
