Summary edit

Description
English: Inner ditch, Cock Lodge medieval site. The inner ditch marks the boundary of the manor house site, a rectangular area which is largely flat except for the windmill mound. The manor belonged to the Percys and was built, most likely of wood, in the 13th century. John Leyland described it in 1538 as ' a pretty manor place, standing on a hill about half a mile from the town'. Nothing now remains except earthworks.
