Description
English: Photographer: unidentified

Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Queensland
Description: The building was situated on the corner of Brunswick and Ivory Streets, Fortitude Valley. This old tobacco factory became Brisbane's first nursery-kindergarten in March 1907. The president was Lady Chelmsford. It was not until 1910 that the Creche and Kindergarten Association became a body separate from the Institute of Social Service. (Description supplied with photograph).
In this image, a couple of children are playing on rocking horses, while younger children are being nursed by kindergarten staff. Mosquito nets hang over three cots along the back wall.
