English: Using QSM to differentiate calcification from iron. Both iron and calcification appear to be hypointense regions on the magnitude image, and the confounding phase value in the basal ganglia cannot provide a definitive differentiation. On the other hand, the paramagnetic iron presents positive susceptibility in the basal ganglia, while the diamagnetic calcification presents negative susceptibility in the lateral ventricles. |
