Summary edit

Description An Afghan national police officer stands guard in front of a crowd of people at Nawa's Islamic New Year celebration in the district center's open-air bazaar March 21. Afghan soldiers and police officers were joined by Marines of 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, to search and guard nearly 1,000 Nawa citizens for who attended the event. This was the first time in years the festivities have been held publicly in Nawa since their Taliban oppressors were flushed out by Marines and Afghan forces last July.
