| Description |
Tower of the Flies, is on an artificial island, the platform is 60 meters (196ft) long and 17-18 meters (56-59ft) wide. It was a formidable guard tower/fort which protected the harbour of the medieval city of Acre. It also served as a lighthouse. The tower gets its name from the Crusaders believing that they had arrived at the ancient Bible city of Ekron. One of the major deities was Ba'al-zebub, literally meaning the Lord of the Flies. Since garbage was frequently left at the site, it was named the Tower of Flies. |
