Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin 1876-1942 SET DESIGN OF LITTLE KITEZH ON THE VOLGA singed in Latin, initialled in Cyrillic and dated 1934 l.r. watercolour over pencil on paper

30 by 45.5cm, 11 3/4 by 17 3/4 in. The present lot depicts the town square of Little Kitezh in Act II of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya which premiered in Brno in 1934.
