Summary edit

Description Acmispon glaber—deerweed. A pioneer plant found in road cuts and other disturbed areas. The species is pollinated by native bees and serves as the host plant for several species of butterflies. One species of butterfly, the Palos Verde blue, once thought to be extinct until a population was discovered at Defense Fuel Support Point, San Pedro, CA has once again been pushed to the point of extinction by drought and good intentions gone awry. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
