English: Supplement page dated February 1945 added to J.A.N. No. 1 UNIFORMS AND INSIGNIA, a publication prepared by the Military Intelligence Service and the Division of Naval Intelligence of the US War Departement as a recognition field manual for the American fighting forces during World War II:

RESERVE (Efédros Axiomatikós) – Composed of former Navy regulars and merchant marine personnel. Rank: Captain through Ensign. Corps

VOLUNTEER RESERVE (Epikúros Axiomatikós) – Men with varying pro- fessional backgrounds who volunteer for emergency service. Rank: Captain through Ensign. Corps colors worn between stripes.
COMMISSIONED ENLISTED CORPS (Pliromáton Stólu) – Men commissioned from the ranks who wear their former enlisted specialty in gold above loop of rank stripes. Rank: Lieutenant through Ensign. No Corps colors worn.
HARBOR MASTER SERVICE (Limeniki) – This service operates in conjunction with the Navy but is under the jurisdiction of the Maritime Service. A gold embroidered anchor worn above straight stripes (no loop) identifies this service. Rank: Captain through Ensign.
  • CORPS COLORS Corps colors are worn between the stripes on sleeve and shoulder board by Corps Officers of the regular navy, reserve, and volunteer reserve. The method of application follows the British system in all instances.
  • RATING INSIGNIA; WARRANT OFFICERS, PETTY OFFICERS AND SEAMEN
Warrant Officers wear gold stripes on sleeves and shoulder boards as illus- trated at right. Petty Of- ficers and Seamen wear chevrons on both upper sleeves; the colors are: gold for Petty Officers, red for Seamen. Apprentice Seaman (Náftis B) and Boy (Naftopés) have no rating insignia.
The cumulative military manual was a Joint Army and Navy ("JAN") publication illustrating uniforms and insignia of the navies, armies and air forces of several countries. The collection of plates was published as a US Government unclassified public document 1943-44 in the format of a pocket-sized loose-leaf string-tied binder allowing for later additional pages and corrections. Today the manual is in the public domain without any known copyright restrictions.
