Η λίμνη δημιουργήθηκε το 1959 με την κατασκευή φράγματος στον ποταμό Μέγδοβα. Έχει συνολική επιφάνεια 24 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα, ενώ το μέγιστο βάθος της είναι περίπου 60μ. Το νερό της χρησιμοποιείται για άρδευση και ηλεκτροπαραγωγή ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια η λίμνη έχει αξιοποιηθεί και τουριστικά, με αρκετές δραστηριότητες πάνω και γύρω από τη λίμνη.
