Notes

Military Jacket, New Zealand Volunteers, circa 1880 William Henry Ewen (1861-1944), New Zealand Garrison Artillery Volunteers, No 9 Company, (Devonport), circa 1900 Jacket used by donor's father, "WH Ewen (1861-1944). He was born in Auckland, and I think he told me he used it in "The'Volunteers' (.), and I estimate this to be about the late 1870s. He was a slight, small man, which would account for the size of the jacket.". J Wadham- Jacket is similar to coats worn by AC Officers, but AC doesn't have scarlet cuffs and collar. AC had light coloured cord on shoulders, toggle buttons and frogging in slightly different pattern. Possibly Light Infantry. R Young- Jacket does not match other NZGAV uniforms of this period in the collection.
