Description
English: Voet has painted Ortensia Mancini and her sister Maria several times. A comparison of this portrait with other paintings of the 2 sisters Ortensia and Maria shows, that this must be a portrait of Maria Mancini, and not of Ortensia (as stated in the museum display captation). Very similar to this image is a more private portrait by Voet of Maria Mancini "as Cleopatra" (in Berlin, Staatliche Museen) with one of those 'undecent' decolletés, because of which Voet was later exiled from Rome.
