Jacob Stampfer (1506-1579), commemorative medal of Huldrych Zwingli
The original medal was made in 1531, with a diameter of 37 mm and a weight of 15.15 grams. The reverse side had an inscription on eight lines:
This is a verse by Heinrich Wölfli, d. 1532, the letters in boldface form a chronodistichon of 1531 (2xD = 1000, 3xC = 300, 4xL = 200, 5xV = 25, 6xI = 6). The medal was very popular and was recast often. A later recast combines the portrait of Zwingli with that of Oekolampad on the reverse side.
