L'affirmation que ce portrait est celui d' Ingres est erronée, l'historien d'art Alain Pougetoux dans son Catalogue de l'exposition, Georges Rouget, élève de Louis David, Musée de la Vie romantique, Paris 1995, ISBN 2-87900-234-6, confirme qu'il ne s'agit pas du portrait d'Ingres mais de celui d'un autre élève de David à savoir George Rouget.
