DescriptionJapanHomes13 ROOM IN SECOND STORY OF OLD BUILDING IN KAWAGOYE, MUSASHI.jpg |
English: From original book: "The second stories of shops are often used as living rooms. Fig. 136 represents a room of this nature in a shop in Kawagoye, in Musashi, nearly three hundred years old. Two long, low windows, opening on the street, were deeply recessed and heavily barred; above these openings were low deep cupboards, closed by long sliding doors. The room was dusty and unused, but I could not help noticing in this old building, as in the old buildings at home, the heavy character of the framework where it appeared in sight." |
