Title
Portraits of Louis Bourbon and Marie-Adelaide of Savoy, Duke and Duchess of Burgundy
Description
English: Louis Bourbon (1682-1712) was the grandson of King Louis XIV. He became heir to his grandfather's throne after his own father died in 1711. Louis Bourbon died in 1712, probably from the plague, a few days after his wife, Marie-Adelaide of Savoy (1685-1712). Their son, born in 1710, became King Louis XV upon the death of Louis XIV in 1714. The couple married in 1697, and their apparent ages in the portraits suggest a date not long thereafter. Wearing these portraits, which are mounted for inclusion in a bracelet, would be a sign of political allegiance. The artist is an unidentified follower of Jean Petitot.
