The crime of Pontius Pilate was the crimeof cowardice. Even the inspired pen has not ventured to describe theterrible conflict which rent the hearts of Christs disciplesduring this long and bitter struggle. They had certainlywitnessed it from the very beginning. One of them, at least,had gained access alike to the court of Caiaphas and thejudgment-hall of Pilate.
