Object history Provenance: The present painting was given to “konferensråd”, life surgeon Christian Fenger (1773–1845) by councillor Johan Conrad Spengler (1767–1839), according to the exhibition catalogue from 1921. At Fenger's death, the painting, together with a substantial collection, went to his only daughter Else Sophie Barnekow (1809–1899), widowed by chamberlain, over judge advocate (overauditør) Ad. von Barnekow (1805–1839). Then their son the composer, professor Chr. Barnekow (1837–1913) inherited the collection, which became named after the Barnekows. Then the painting became part of graduate engineer (civilingeniør) Johan Lønborg's collection, his sale Bruun Rasmussen auction 163, 1964 no. 94. Sold at Bruun Rasmussen Auctions on May 28, 2019 for DKK 35,000 (Lot 886/229).
