Summary edit

Description
English: The John and Mary Bojanek House, 92 Pine Ridge Road at Doat Street, Cheektowaga, New York, November 2021. Built about 1941 on one of the last vacant lots in this section of the Pine Hill neighborhood and sporting a stone-veneer façade over a wood frame, the Bojanek House exemplifies the Tudor Revival school of residential architecture that was popular during the interwar years. As an example of said style, it lies about midway between, on the one hand, the more elaborate manifestations of the style found in upper-class Western New York enclaves such as Central Park, Eggertsville, and Park Meadow, and on the other, the simplified, so-called "Minimal Traditional" aesthetic that was more common in middle-class suburbs. The asymmetry of the façade, the characteristic sweeping gable that encloses an understated main entrance, and the subdued color scheme are all classic features. The house also testifies to the growth of the American middle class during the same period: as a boilermaker employed by the Erie Railroad, a house like this would have been well beyond the financial means of a man like John V. Bojanek (1882-1956) in earlier periods of history. His wife Mary (1888-1973) continued living there as a widow after his death, and was well-known around the neighborhood for the flower gardens she maintained on the property. The house was finally sold out of the family's hands in 2000.
