English: Johnson Memorial, Hamstreet. A picture with a story: The flag and memorial stone are for a US World War II pilot whose plane was in trouble as he flew in across the English Channel. After his crew parachuted to safety, he decided to attempt a crash landing, rather than bail out himself, risking the plane crashing into houses. It was here that he lost his life. The memorial can be found just off Marsh Road behind the bypass junction. Other local info can be found at http://hometown.aol.co.uk/hamcopublishing/hamstreet.html |
