Summary edit

Description
English: The Joseph L. DeGoris House, 136 Huntley Road, Buffalo, New York, March 2022. Built in 1947 in the Treehaven or Judge's Row neighborhood in Buffalo's extreme northeast corner, this is a relatively late-period example of the Minimal Traditional style of residential architecture, which was a fairly common aesthetic among the few homes being built in Buffalo's far outer neighborhoods and inner-ring suburbs during the Great Depression and World War II, but was by now already beginning to give way to Ranch and other Modernist-derived styles. Obvious nods to Tudor Revivalism come in the form of an asymmetrical façade with multiple front gables, decorative masonry work, a front entrance that's set off-center and framed with a rustic stone surround, and the diaper pattern in the windows flanking the entrance. A similar stone surround once framed the large window at left, which was replaced in 2021 with the projecting bay seen in this image. A native of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, Joseph Louis DeGoris DiGiacomo (1894-1956) was a World War I veteran and Western Union telegrapher-turned-Lieutenant of the Buffalo Police Department. He lived in the house until his death, and the house remained until 1992 in the hands, consecutively, of his widow and daughter.
