| Description | The Joseph Rushkewicz House, part of the Evanston Ridge Historic District (1924). Rushkewicz was born in Milwaukee in 1880. He came with his parents to Chicago nine years later. He attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School. After graduating, he worked for a co-op store as a buyer, studying business at night. He was a non-commissioned offiver in the Naval Militia of Illinois and Corporal of Company I in the 2nd Infantry of Illinois, ING. He started a real estate business in Chicago, and focused on property on the northwest side. He was director of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, and president of the John Sobieski Citizens' and Improvement Club in Chicago's 17th Ward. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and secretary of the Eagle Loan and Investment Association of Chicago. He also served as a member of the State Board of Equalization in Chicago's 16th Ward. |
