English: The Joseph Santoro House, 7 Lebrun Circle, Amherst, New York, January 2022. Built in 1951 and a contributing property to the NRHP-eligible Amherst Estates Historic District, this two-story brick-veneer house is an excellent case in point of the influence that Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style had on mid-20th century residential architecture. The bottom-heavy massing, unbroken horizontal ribbons of windows, and shallow-pitched hipped roof (whose widely overhanging eaves recall the aesthetic's fascination with cantilever construction) are all present, but in a simplified form that capably fulfills Wright's goal of making high architecture accessible to the middle classes. Joseph Santoro (1921-1987) was an Italian-born construction contractor whose company, Santoro Construction, specialized in the building of large apartment complexes, most prominently including the Executive Tower on Delaware Avenue in the city and the Williamsville Tower Condominiums in suburban Amherst. Santoro and his family lived in the house until his move to Miami Beach in 1966.
