In order to preserve infront of this monument a platform which mightresist the effect of running waters, a wall waserected, and the terrace was extended by meansof several ranges of arches. These two monuments,which are seen one after the other, and especiallythe first, appear to me to partake partly of theEgyptian style. A little farther on we observedin the mountain a monument of the Corinthianorder, and beyond that a tomb with three tiers ofcolumns, offering a singular series of ornaments,which constantly increase in height, dimensions,and boldness of style. This monument appears to be a bad imitation ofthe funereal edifice which the Arabs have called theKhasne.
