Description
English: Hatirjheel(Hatirjheel Lake), Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a wonderful land of recreation. Every day thousands of people go there to spend their time. It has become a popular place for city dwellers. Here they find their mental peace. Here a lot of trees are set along with the both sides of the streets which beautify Hatirjheel Park and make it eye-catching & sense of romance to all stages of people. Hatirjheel is a land of 320 acres. It is transformed into a place of festivity especially at night. Colorful lights are illuminating the wide expanse of concrete structures, lake and waterfronts. So this seems to everyone a world of fantasy.

The Project Facilities:

This Hatirjheel Project’s total land is 320 acres. Its canal water is fresh. It has 8.8 –km service road, 8-km express road, and 260 meter viaduct & 12-km walkway. It has also lanes connecting Banglamotor, Dilu Road, Moghbazar, Ulan, Noyatola, Rampura, Begunbari and Kunipara areas. As a result, this has helped ease traffic movement from Rampura to Karwan Bazar and Maghbazar in east-west communications. Here six bridges and four overpasses are expected to reduce traffic jam by adjoining Tejgaon, Gulshan, Modhubagh, Moghbazar, Badda and Ulan. Besides, here the seven-meter wide two-way service road connects Moghbazar with Rampura As a result, the people can easily avoid traffic jams in Moghbazar, Mouchak and Malibagh. That’s why; here the traffic jam is free due to the wide range of communication system.

The Project Cost: Total project cost is Tk. 1,971 crore. Among it, tk.1,048 crore is spent for land acquisition & the rest money for the construction of various structures.

The Project Starting Date:

The ground work of Hatirjheel Project started in December 2007 and this is open to public since January 2,2014.
Inauguration:

The PM declared the site of Hatirjheel Lake open to public & half a dozen brightly decorated boats presented a welcome race in the Hatirjheel water. Moreover around a hundred ducks were made free in the water while colorful balloons were released into the sky. Two elephants were engaged to welcome the PM, Sheikh Hasina. This was symbolising the royal way of welcoming and corresponding with the name, Hatirjheel, meaning marshland of elephants.

Who Completed the Construction Work?

 Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), Dhaka Wasa, and the Local Government Engineering Department along with army engineers were employed into different components of the scheme. A total of 500 army soldiers completed the construction works under the command of 15 officers.

The construction of a theatre, park, garden and some other beautification projects has not yet been completed. Like other facilities, such types of facilities- an information centre, celebration point, viewing decks, benches at different points, game equipment for children, water taxi terminals and footbridges will be included in this project in near future.

After all, this Hatirjheel Project is really praiseworthy. It attracts the people of all ages. So everyday thousands of people come here to visit this place and spend their time for amusement.
