View from the side

Faustina the Elder, wife of Antonius Pius, has her hair parted in the center like Sabina's, brushed back around the forehead in loose waves. At the back, it is plaited into braids and pile into a flat bun at the top of the head, almost like a crown. This is typical of the Antonine style of female portraiture, in which the hair is carved rather than drilled and the classicizing model of Sabina can still be felt.
