Zachowany do dzisiaj, drewniany kościół zbudowano ok. 1520 r., a w XVIII w. wzniesiono niską wieżę i soboty (zrekonstruowane w XX w.). Późnogotycki kościół pw. świętych Filipa i Jakuba Apostołów został zbudowany w oparciu na tradycyjnych zasadach stosowanych w drewnianych świątyniach Małopolski na początku XVI w. Wzniesiono go z modrzewiowych bali w konstrukcji zrębowej. Piotra i św. Andrzeja. Filipa i św. Jakuba. Widoczne na ścianach fragmenty neogotyckiej polichromii pochodzą z ok. 1888 r. Warto zwrócić uwagę na późnogotycki portal wejściowy, zamknięty łukiem zwielokrotnionym i dekorowany ornamentem. Kościół utracił funkcję świątyni parafialnej w 1885 r. W czasie działań wojennych, na przełomie 1914 i 1915 r. został w dużym stopniu zniszczony: drewniane elementy ścian, wieży, sobót i dachu żołnierze wykorzystali do budowy okopów. Również wnętrze z XVI- i XVII-wiecznym wyposażeniem uległo dewastacji. Odbudowę kościoła prowadzono etapami przez cały XX w. Ostatni, kompleksowy remont kościoła rozpoczęty w 1983 r. trwał kilka lat i objął architekturę budowli, jej wyposażenie i otoczenie. --- Church of St Philip and St Jacob the Apostles in Sękowa In Beskid Niski mountains at the foothill of Magura Małastowska, the village of Sękowa was established by Casimir the Great (Kazimierz Wielki) in 1346. At the same time, the king made an endowment to the local parish. The wooden church we see today was constructed around 1520, and in the 18th century, a low tower and a sheltered gallery (reconstructed in the 20th century) were added. The late-Gothic Church of St Philip and St Jacob the Apostles was built following traditional principles applied in wooden shrines throughout Małopolska at the beginning of the 16th century. It has a frame structure of larch logs. The construction follows a traditional plan: a single nave with a narrower chancel, and a sacristy adjacent to the north. The tower to the west is open at ground-floor level and capped with a dome-like spire with a tall, octagonal lantern. The walls above the gallery, and the tall, double- pitched roof, are covered with shingle. The church is encircled with a gallery known as soboty, supported upon poles with angle braces and sheltered with a canopy stretching all the way to the cornice. The roof of the gallery, also covered with shingle, is lowered in the places where windows are positioned. Inside we find a late-Renaissance main altar dating back to the beginning of the 17th century. The canvas in the middle shows St Michael, St Benedict and St Anthony, while the side wings – in the niches – feature statues of St Peter and St Andrew. Portrayed in the predella of the altar is a bass-relief scene with the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin, and at the top of the altar are St Philip and St Jacob. The fragments of neo-Gothic murals date back to 1888. Also interesting is the late-Gothic portal, enclosed in an elaborate, decorative arch. Portraits of the church’s patrons were placed at the top of the altar. Late-Gothic doorways, another interesting element of the interior, are supported with ogee arches. The church lost its parochial status in 1885. During the first world war, at the end of 1914, the church was badly damaged as soldiers used fragments of the wooden walls, tower, gallery and roof to build trenches. The interior, with its 16th and 17th-century furnishings, was similarly devastated. Reconstruction works continued in stages throughout the 20th century, with the last complex restoration programme beginning in 1983. The conservation works were awarded the Europa Nostra medal in 1994, and in 2003 the church was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
