History of landscape

Summary edit

Description
English: A monument for a tree by artist Huub van der Beele is how the Kamiël of the Piël could be described. The bridge formed by a stairs up and another one down is placed in the scenic area of the "Zwarte Plak" in Evertsoord. The artwork is more than a monument to a forgotten tree. It is also a tribute to the 'de groote Peel', a region that, due to the quarries the beginning of the last century, was transformed from a "desolate natural area" in fertile land. Standing on that high position you are reminded or perhaps I should say confrontated with the huge changes in the landscape in the recent past. More than two-thirds of the total area of the Netherlands is in use as green space (68 per cent), the majority of this area is rural (54% of the total). In addition Netherlands. has 19 per cent watersurface, 13 per cent is urban area. These are the data from the CBS (statistics netherlands) Jan of 2016. Only a roughly estimated 27 % of the area is natural vegetation. That is not much!
