Description
English: Kantanagar Temple in Dinajpur District is an unique example of the temple architecture in the subcontinent. Maharaja Prannath and his adopted son Ramnath, the renowned Zamindars of Dinajpur erected this temple during 1704-1752A.D. This 50ft. square three storeyed brick temple is built on a high platform. This is a Nava-ratna temple. The roof of the ground floor and first floor of the temple each contains four sikharas or ratnas at their corners while the roof of second floor in its middle contains the rujns of the central sikhara.The entire outer surface of the temple is exquisitely embellished with terracotta plaques which depict flora and fauna, geometric motifs, mythological scenes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata; the contemporary social scenes and favorite pastime . The idol of Kantaji is kept in the garvagriha of the temple in its ground floor.
বাংলা : দিনাজপুর জেলার কান্তনগর মন্দির উপ-মহাদেশের মন্দির স্থাপত্যের একটি অপূর্ব নিদর্শণ। দিনাজপুরের প্রখ্যাত জমিদার মহারাজা প্রাণনাথ ও তার পোষ্য পুত্র রামনাথ ১৭০৪- ১৭৫২ খৃষ্টাব্দে এ মন্দির নির্মাণ করেন।

পঞ্চাশ ফুট বর্গাকৃতির ত্রিতল বিশিষ্ট ইটের তৈরী এ মন্দিরটি একটি উঁচু মঞ্চের উপর নির্মিত। এটি একটি নবরত্ন মন্দির। মম্দিরের নিচতলার ছাদ ও দ্বিতলের ছাদের চারকোণে চারটি করে আটটি অলংকঢৃত চূড়া বা রত্ন এবং ত্রিতলরে ছাদের মধ্যস্থলে আছে বৃহদাকারের কেন্দ্রীয় চুড়ার ধ্বংসাবশেষ। মন্দিরের বাইরের দেয়ালজুড়ে পোড়ামাটির ফলকে ফুটিয়ে তোলা হয়েছে রামায়ণ, মহাভারত, বিভিন্ন পৌরাণিক কাহিনী এবং তৎকালীন সামাজিক জীবন ও বিনোদনের চমৎকার চিত্র।

কথিত আছে যে এই মন্দিরের দেয়ালে হিন্দুধর্মের ৩৩ কোটি দেবতার সকলের ছবি রয়েছে।
