Summary edit

Description
English: Kedage Baare Eretha Gatti is a festive dish that is prepared on the occasion of Naga Panchami that venerates the Naga (half human, half serpent beings). India has a rich history of serpent worship. The hooded serpent, known as Naga or Sarpa, is venerated and worshipped in different parts of the country. In the book ‘The Sun and the Serpent’ written by religious historian C.F. Oldham, serpents are described as demigods who are ‘the celestial serpents belonging to Surya’ (the sun god). Oldham says: "It is to these ancient deities, rather than to the great Gods of the Brahmins, that the Hindu people first turn in times of trouble. To the Naga, they pray for rain for their crops they pay their vows in time of pestilence or famine. To these also, they offer the first milk of their cows and first fruits of their harvest". Nagas are also propiated for eye and skin troubles and progeny. During this festival, people worship snake deities or real snakes and offer milk, sweets, and flowers. People usually fast from sunrise till sunset. Salty or fried dishes are avoided. This sweet dish is a rice pancake that is stuffed with a spice mixture of cardamom, coconut, and Pandan extract. Pandan also known as Screwpine is an aromatic plant prized for its sweet floral fragrance and versatility in culinary and medicinal value. Its spiky leaves grow in fan-shaped bunches and thrive in tropical climates. Certain varieties bear fruits that look somewhat like red-orange pinecones. It is used to make aromatic oils and perfumes. It is known to lower blood sugar and relieve rheumatism.
