English: Kenmore Baptist Church, 21 Delaware Road at Wardman Road, Kenmore, New York, December 2022. Built in 1917, this red brick edifice boasts a simplified Gothic Revival design of a type that was becoming ever more popular in the era: notice the preponderance of pointed arches, parapeted gables on both the building itself and the projecting entrance vestibule, crenellated corner tower, and Gibbs surrounds framing the main entrance and the louvered window atop the Delaware Road façade. Unusually for the style, the largest stained glass windows are placed on the sides of the building rather than at front. Kenmore Baptist Church was organized in 1911 as a mission church to serve the growing population of what's now recognized as Buffalo's first real suburb. After spending its first years renting out a former schoolhouse on Ramsdell Avenue just over the city line in Buffalo, in December 1915 the congregation unveiled plans for a spacious purpose-built church to be constructed for a cost of $9,000. Groundbreaking occurred in April 1916, and construction took nine months. Over the ensuing decades, the continued growth of the village, and therefore of the church's ranks, necessitated several additions to the building, the largest of which, consisting of a new sanctuary, dates to 1961 and is seen obliquely at far right (here is a better view). The portion of the complex seen here is now used primarily as administrative offices and for educational programs.
