| Description |
Keystone with eponymous motif on the Pineapple public house. Built c.1868, architect and builder unknown. The pub is grade II listed. Kentish Town, London Borough of Camden. The pineapple was a symbol of extravagance as well as tropical beauty in industrial England. Requiring a specially heated glass house to keep alive, cultivators would charge hosts rent to display the pineapple at a party. Guests could queue up to admire the unique exotic aroma. If the pineapple did not make it through the night however, without being eaten, a hefty charge would be levied.
