Japanese armour, White Tower's collections.

Summary edit

Description
English: Japanese armour, given by the japanese shogun Tokugawa Hidetada to King James I of England en 1613, commemorating the first agreement between Japan and England. The armour is marked with the heraldic device (kamon) of the Takeda clan. Made ca 1570, it may have belonged to Takeda Katsuyori, defeated at the battle of Nagashino (1575). Modified in 1610 by Iwai Yozaemon, armourer working for the Tokugawa clan. Royal Armouries collection, White Tower, Tower of London.
