DescriptionKirataarjuneyam.jpg |
English: Kirataarjuneyam- The Pandavas were in exile after losing a game of
Dice to the Kauravas. With no hope of regaining their lost kingdom, they prepare for the inevitable- the battle with the Kauravas. When the battle plans are drawn, on advice from Veda Vyasa they agree to send Arjuna to seek the powerful spear Pasupati from Shiva. Arjuna does a very rigorous penance to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Just when Shiva is pleased by his devotion and decides to bless him, Muka a demon in the form of a Boar attacks Arjuna. Shiva takes the form of a hunter Kirata and sends an arrow at the Boar; Arjuna disturbed by the commotion instinctively releases his arrow, both the arrows strike the boar and is killed. An argument ensues between Arjuna and Kirata as to who killed the Boar resulting in a show of strength. Arjuna soon realises that the hunter is invincible and recognises it’s the almighty Shiva who blesses him with the weapon.
