  • Deutsch: Die Kirnitzsch (tschechisch: Křinice) ist ein Fluss im Elbsandsteingebirge mit der Quelle in Tschechien und der Mündung in Deutschland. Auf diesem Bild ist die Untere Schleuse zu sehen, mit der früher Wasser angestaut wurde, um Holz zu flößen. Mit ihrer 32 m breiten Staumauer kann sie auf der mittlerweile versandeten 750 m Staulänge ca. 28.000 Kubikmeter Wasser zurückhalten. Ihre Wasserpforte in der Schleusenmitte und das kleine Wehr sind auch heute noch funktionstüchtig und werden durch Einschieben von Versatzhölzern vor allem beim Einsetzen der Schneeschmelze als Hochwasserschutz genutzt. Dazu werden, wie auch beim Flößen, Floßhaken benutzt, deren Aufbewahrungsort der hölzerne Aufbau darstellt. Von 1985 bis 1993 rekonstruierten Waldarbeiter die zerfallene Anlage und leisteten damit einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Denkmalpflege. Nach einigen Überlegungen wurde aber beschlossen, die Staustufe Untere Schleuse zugunsten der in der Kirnitzsch lebenden Tierwelt nicht weiter auszubauen.
