| Description |
English: Knock Road, Dervock The origins of the village are unknown. The oldest buildings were replaced in the late 18th century when the landlord, Earl Macartney of Lissanourne, built what he hoped would have been a thriving market town. Village fairs were held up to six times a year, mainly for the trade of horses and cattle. The most important building in the village was the Market house, opened in 1805, in which the Macartney family also furnished an upper room to serve as a ballroom. |
