Description
English: Korwar, a wooden ancestral figure that preserved the memory of dead villagers. They were made in the north of New Guinea and played a key role in the communication between the dead and the living. Occasionally Korwars contained a real skull for the head. These were made for the leading villagers. Tropenmuseum Amsterdam.
