Карл-Луи-Федор Саксен – живописец, представитель русской и немецкой художественных школ. Его работы отличаются филигранностью мазка и психологичностью сюжета. В 1884 году поступил в Императорскую Академию художеств вольнослушателем и посещал вечерние классы. Пробыв в стенах Академии не более полугода, он решил уехать в Мюнхен и поступить в мюнхенскую Академию изобразительных искусств, в которую и был зачислен 18 октября 1886 года. Но и там он не задержался надолго, убедившись, что не может подчиняться никакой академической рутине. Карл Федорович начал заниматься живописью по своей методе. В 1888 году он вернулся в Петербург и занялся портретной живописью. В 1890 году молодой художник оставил Петербург и избрал себе местом жительства Мюнхен. В 1891 году он написал четыре картины: «Последняя молитва», «Последнее бежище», «Компрометированный» и «Жанр». Затем Карл Саксен подал прошение в Императорскую Академию художеств С.-Петербурга на получение звания классного художника или награды (на усмотрение Совета Академии) и представил на рассмотрение эти четыре картины. 13 апреля 1893 года Совет Академии присудил ему золотую медаль имени Виже-Лебрен, которая присуждалась только ученикам Академии, а Карл был бывшим вольнослушателем фигурного класса. Представленная картина экспонировалась на выставке Императорской академии художеств в 1897 году.

Картины Карла Саксена хранятся в Ярославском (Российская Федерация), Одесском (Украина), Сызранском (Самарская обл. Российской Федерации) художественных музеях, а также в частных коллекциях.

¹ - Author who is not a national of a country of the Union but who has his habitual residence in a country of the Union, be assimilated to national of that country.

The exclusive rights to this work do not extend on territory of the Russian Federation according to article 1256 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (details), because this work does not meet the requirements on the territory of publication, on the author's nationality, and on obligations for international treaties.
