Värmlands landskapssten är kyanitkvartsiten. Den består i genomsnitt till 40 procent av det aluminiumrika mineralet kyanit och till 60 procent av vit kvarts. Bergarten tros ha bildats vid högtrycksomvandling av ömsom mjäliga sediment, ömsom växelskiktade ler- och kvartssediment för 1900 till 1500 miljoner år sedan. Kyanitkvartsiten är en unik homogent blå eller blå-vitrandig bergart vars vackra färg gjort den eftertraktad som byggsten. Kyanit bildas endast vid mycket höga tryck och måttlig temperatur och kvartsiten har flotationsanrikats på sin kyanit, vars smältpunkt är mycket hög. Kvartsiten är därför användbar till värmetåliga keramiska produkter. |
