DescriptionLANL Recovery Act Project Hits Hiring Peak, Exceeds Job Goals (7419799666).jpg |
LANL safety and operations crews observe the demolition of the world’s first full-scale plutonium processing lab. Known as “DP West,” the facility operated from late 1945 to 1978. The Lab received $212 million in Recovery Act funds to decontaminate and decommission 21 old buildings at Technical Area 21 (TA-21), install 16 groundwater monitoring wells, and excavate the Lab’s oldest waste disposal site, Material Disposal Area B (MDA-B). |
