Title
LVPL-2F0F44 Fragment of a cast copper alloy purse bar of Medieval date
Description
English: Fragment of a cast copper alloy purse bar of Medieval date, c.1450-1500. The fragment is represented by the outer length of one of the side bars. This consists of a shaft which extends to two moulded ridges and terminates in a rounded square. The shaft of the bar is decorated with niello lattice work and the terminal has three raised niello transverse lines. On the underside of the bar are the remains of the attachment flange, to which the purse would have originally been sewn. Find recorded from images supplied by North West MDC. Unfortunately no measurements recorded. A similar purse bar is identified in Reads 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity', page 124, no.905, fig.84.
