Situada a 42º 3' de latitud Sur y 72º 3' de longitud Oeste, a las puertas de la Comarca Andina del Paralelo 42,El Maitén es un punto particular de la geografía patagónica. Situada en un valle labrado por la erosión de los glaciares y surcado por el Río Chubut, esta pequeña población de 3.500 habitantes goza con el privilegio de ser el punto exacto de transición entre el Bosque Andino Patagónico y la Estepa. Esto la diferencia del resto de las localidades de la Comarca, lo que la hace un lugar particular por la marcada diversidad de su paisaje y sus ecosistemas. Desde aqui sale el viejo Expreso Patagónico "La trochita" último tren de vapor de trocha angosta funcionando en el mundo. |
