Signé et daté en bas à droite LAVALLEE.P/ faciebat/E..ncour/1798.

Inscription sur le feuillet tenu par l'enfant armand Erman/Beaufort (?)/1797 (?).

D'après la tradition familiale et l'inscription sur le dessin au centre, ce tableau représenterait Madeleine Françoise de Logras (1754-1806) et ses enfants, Madeleine Angélique Eeremans de Beaufort (née en 1778) et Armand Eeremans de Beaufort (1783-1858). Le père (1723-1793), disparu cinq avant la réalisation de toile, est évoqué par la copie de son portrait que tient son fils, au dessus de son carton à dessins. Il était, sous l'Ancien Régime, premier lieutenant-colonel de cavalerie, grand prévôt, premier lieutenant du tribunal des maréchaux de France et très proche du maréchal de Richelieu (Louis-François-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis de Richelieu). La fille aînée deviendra Madame Le Charron sous l'Empire.
