Description

Une des tours d'angle de la citadelle. Au fond, à droite, la mosquée et le minaret Kalon devant la médersa Mir-i-Arab

La forteresse de l'Emir de Boukhara, est appelée l'Ark.

Elle était le siège du pouvoir régional et comprenait de nombreux bâtiments dont le palais, des prisons, des casernes, des mosquées, des magasins, etc..

Elle est entourée de murs hauts de près de 20 m et longs de 790 m et se trouve aujourd'hui en pleine ville moderne.

La porte d'entrée (photo) est encadrée de deux tours et supporte une terrasse qui était réservée à l'Emir et à sa famille.

Devant la citadelle, se trouvait le Registan, c'est à dire la principale place publique de la ville (fêtes, marché, exécutions, ..)
