| Description |
English: Lagan navigation restoration (1). This weir at Stranmillis (looking downstream - 1339498 shows the view upstream) is now the limit of navigation on the River Lagan which - with stretches of canal - was once navigable to Lough Neagh.
A sign close to the weir gives some information about the proposed restoration as far as Edenderry 1288894 and 654412. This will (subject to finance) involve the replacement of the existing Stranmillis weir by a new lock, cascade weir and footbridge and turning the site into a public attraction. Continue to 1533868. The Lagan will be dredged and the once-navigable channel cleared and restored. No 2 lock 909264 would also be restored. No 3 1514976 already has the work underway. |
